Networking and IT Security Society (NetSoc)

We are a student association with the primary goal to enhance Ontario Tech’s Networking and IT Security program to provide the best Information Technology program experience!

 

We are dedicated to improving both the academic and professional development of our peers by developing a wide range of activities that introduce students to a variety of industry perspectives within the IT community.

 

 

We host workshops, study sessions, guest speaker events, an annual student-led Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge, and send contestants to Hackfest – the largest hacking event in Canada! We welcome you to join contact us and join our events if you have any interest in Networking and IT Security!

Past Events

TACOPS

TACOPS is a yearly challenge that brings students together for a dynamic "Capture the Flag" event designed to enhance their IT skills. Participants form small teams and tackle various challenges, including trivia, steganography, cryptography, IT security, and networking, all while competing for exciting prizes. This event fosters collaborative problem-solving and hands-on learning in a competitive and engaging environment.

Careers at Microsoft: Innovation and Tech

Amy Lee and Jamie Chan, both alumni of Ontario Tech who were former Microsoft interns shared their journeys and experiences at Microsoft from their perspectives.

Subnetting Workshop

Netsoc hosted a subnetting workshop for everyone who is interested in learning more about subnetting. 

Guest Speaker: Daniel Marcotte

Netsoc had the privilege of hosting Daniel Marcotte, CTIO and CISO of Indigo Books and Music, and CEO of Meta LEAD, who joined us in the Hacker Research Lab at Ontario Tech to talk about his journey in cybersecurity and discuss the ransomware attack that Indigo was hit by in February 2023.
