Mental Health Services

Ontario Tech University provides support and assistance for students experiencing academic challenges caused by personal, physical or emotional difficulties by offering a range of short-term counselling and therapy services to students using a 'Stepped Care' model. Students in crisis will also be provided support and counselling as needed through appropriate referrals to the community. There is no charge for these services.

If you are in distress and would like information about what resources you can access, review the distress flowchart to help find the support that will be most helpful for your situation.

If you would like some help navigating your choices, book an intake session with our Student Wellness Coordinator!

There are lots of ways that you can improve your mental health. Reach out to one of our many campus resources, explore mental health websites and apps, connect with a helpline through phone or text or find support in your community.

Student Mental Health Services offers professional one-on-one mental health support for students at Ontario Tech University.  If you would like to connect with a member of our team, you can: book and intake session, and/or book a 45-min drop-in appointment

If you are in need of a community that can relate to what you're going through, or if you would like to be a support to others, Student Life offers a variety of opportunities.

Sometimes self-help options, workshops or groups do not provide sufficient mental health support. If you need one-on-one support from one of our mental health counsellors or a referral to a specialized program, reach out:

Ontario Tech and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences are collaborating to host a unique mental health and well-being learning centre where people with lived experiences navigating wellness through the post-secondary experience (i.e., experts by experience), mental health professionals, and peers come together to co-create and co-deliver courses series on topics that support mental health (e.g., skill building, recreational, vocational, etc.). These courses will provide education about mental health, wellness, and ultimately discovering or rediscovering passions, hope, and meaning. This program can support you by helping you understand your unique challenges and learn how to manage them better in order to pursue your goals. Groups are led by others with "lived experience" of being a student while navigating wellness and are blended with the expertise of mental health practitioners to help participants develop meaningful and
practical goals for recovery. The focus is on hope, empowerment, possibility and connection. See you there! For more information, or to register, click here or email here.
